Hit FAQ
Frequently asked questions about Hits
Why do you deduct hits when I go backward to what I have already seen?
Because we can't tell what you've already seen. You can get into the indexes and detail pages wherever you want and go either way using the "next" or "previous" buttons. Because of the way the internet and Web Browsers work, we have no efficient or easy way to keep track of where you started or what you have looked at. We therefore have no way to tell whether you are seeing new or old information when you click the "next" or "previous" button. See Getting the Most Out of Your Hits and Sessions and Your Browser for information about how to minimize the number of hits you spend going backward to what you have already seen.
Why do you deduct a hit when my search cames back with "No Records Found"?
Because finding that something did not occur is often as useful as finding that something did occur. You can construct many useful queries on Teledex that will result in No Records Found. We have no way to distinguish between mistakes and queries that were narrowly constructed to answer a specific question. We have put a great deal of effort into finding ways not to deduct hits for "mechanical" or procedural errors. We have also provided extensive help information to help you understand the subtleties of searching on Teledex. If you find a place where you feel that Teledex unfairly deducts hits we encourage you to call and discuss this with us.
